Roof preparation

It is essential that when we insulate your roof, and you invest into a new insulation, that it will be protected from adverse weather and any displaced tiles in the roof that could cause a leak, we make this our highest priority because if your roof isn't water tight you run the risk of damp problems, damaging insulation and more importantly rotting of wood in worse cases.

some roofs are so covered in moss, algae, lichen that we can’t even see if the roof tiles are broken or displaced this means that to carry out are work to the best standard we may need to clean areas of you roof to insure to get a better visual of the led flashing, tiles, cement mortar to check it's all in good condition, and if work repairs need to be made we will carry out this work with our own roofing specialist team to prepare your loft to be a safe dry environment for the insulation to be installed.

Please talk to our representative, if your order exceeds a certain amount we can normally carry out small external roofing works at no added cost to you

Our process:

Why you should be worried about moss growth

At Roof Wise we have unparalleled knowledge of moss, algae and lichens and thus have the expertise to clean these from roof surfaces safely and effectively at exceptional prices.

Understanding moss, algae and lichen growth…

The growth of moss and algae is most prolific in areas of shade and damp, typically they are more commonly seen on roof surfaces that are north facing or where trees provide shading. The problem is also worse where roof tiles have partly-porous surfaces, more typical of ageing concrete tiles, this is why you tend to see more moss growth on older roofs.
Moss and algae growth is widespread in the UK due to our naturally damp and cooler climatic conditions. It is estimated that over 1 million homes have significant problems with moss and algae growth. YOURS could be one of them.

Why you should act immediately!

Although the moss and algae organisms do not themselves cause damage to the roofing tiles, they often create the conditions to accelerate the degradation of tiles and reducing the overall life span of a roof, forcing you to purchase an expensive new roof when you otherwise didn’t want or could afford too! Our service guarantees no moss or lichen growth for 10 years.

How moss spreads

Moss often grows in the form of moss balls across the roof surface, feeding off the algae beneath. With time some of the moss balls fall into gutters, resulting in clogging and eventual overspill of rainwater onto the building elevations creating further maintenance problems.
Moss and algae also spread rapidly, spores may originally fall from trees or can be carried to roof surfaces in a breeze. Once settled onto a roof surface, given the right local climatic conditions, the moss and algae will spread across the roof surface. Even worse, moss spreads invisibly until it is often too late to spot the problem.
